The Willys pilot model, the Quad under company testing.

The Willys Quad was the pilot vehicle submitted by Willys-Overland for the US Army to test.  The vehicle was not successful because it was too heavy.  Still the 60 bhp engine was promising so Willys went back to the drawing boards to lighten up their product.  They cut the ends of bolts off.  The final product was only ounces under the maximum weight limit.  This is in contrast to the Bantam vehicle which was a couple of hundred pounds under the maximum weight limit.
